Clothing Banks
One of the main projects supported by Porters’ Progress UK are the clothing banks in Kathmandu and Lukla, Nepal. Both banks provide places for visitors to the region to donate any unwanted or surplus outdoor gear for use by the Porter community.
The banks are run by a small dedicated team of locals, and the gear is lent out to Porters for a very low refundable deposit.
Donations are received both, from individuals visiting the region, or by larger companies with surplus stock, looking to put it to good use. In recent years PPUK have received large donations of clothing from The Ski club of Great Britain and Rohan, all of which goes to a very good cause.
Porters’ Progress UK have also collected an extraordinary amount of donated gear in the UK, and are constantly looking for volunteers visiting the region who might be able to take a few items out with them.
Our biggest challenge is storing and getting the gear out to where it is most needed, as importing large quantites can prove tricky, so if you or anyone you know, is visiting the region and may have even space for a spare jacket or two please contact do not hesitate to contact us
